With a role alongside a vampire in Dark Shadows, after becoming one herself in Let Me In, it's time for Chloe Moretz to step into the shoes of another iconic horror monster. Variety reports Ms. Moretz will play the titular character in Maggie, a drama about a 16-year old girl from a town in middle America who becomes infected by a zombie. However, this film is different then your average zombie flick as it actually takes six months for the girl to turn into a zombie and the story follows the affect it has on her family, mainly her father who continues to have nothing but unconditional love for his teenage daughter. Now that Avengers is out of the way, Warner Bros can start their epic marketing to conclude Chris Nolan's Batman series in all its glory this July. One of the first big announcements is a Tumbler Tour 2012, not to be confused with Tumblr, where the blog is hosted. "The Tumbler and the Bat-Pod are hitting the road and traveling across North America." Right now they have listed 26 cities (including in Canada) starting with Arkansas on May 12th, ending in Los Angeles on July 7th, which is perfectly timed for a premiere. Not many details are known yet, since it's just kicking off, but a few early photos have hit. But what about "The Bat"? ›››

Way back in November of 2009 we got word that Stephen King was working on a sequel novel to The Shining, the book on which the classic Stanley Kubrick horror film of the same name is based. Well, King has been hard at work on the book titled Doctor Sleep, and the reason we're so interested in it is because of the potential for a film sequel. Apparently the book is slated to hit shelves on January 15th next year, and there's a good chance a studio could pick up the film rights to the book before then. Even though I don't watch MMA or any sort of martial arts, Gavin O'Connor's Warrior was one of my favorite movies of 2011. It's a great sports drama which featured fantastic performances from Joel Edgerton, Tom Hardy, and Nick Nolte. Deadline reports that O'Connor has found a new project, a contemporary Japanese crime thriller called Yakuza which is about - you guessed it - the Japanese equivalent to the mafia. The plot follows an American intelligence guru who gets in over his head dealing with the head of the crime syndicate, slipping even deeper into the seedy underworld of the Japanese criminal organization. ›››

The brilliant director revealed their collaboration on a stop-motion animated version of the story with The Jim Henson Company & Pathe back in 2008 and the concept art looked positively astounding. At the time Gris Grimly, who illustrated the 2002 take on the story, was directing with Mark Gustafson, but now Variety has word that del Toro himself has decided to co-direct, his first animated film, with Gustafson with an eye towards shooting once he's completely done with Pacific Rim sometime next summer. But now the real meat and potatoes have arrived with the first trailer for the film which follows a vigilante police force that fought the gangsters of the 40's and 50's in Los Angeles on their own terms. Sometimes Penn looks a bit like a Dick Tracy villain, but this flick looks amazing and likely a great stride for Fleischer as a director. Watch! ›››

This quirky little dramatic comedy is set mostly in Los Angeles, following a "rich boy" who meets a girl unlike anyone he calls "Crazy Eyes" that he can't have, but of course there's all kinds of tension and drama and things going on. I'm a fan of Lukas Haas, you may recognize him from Brick or Alpha Dog or Death in Love or Inception or Contraband, and I like seeing him in good lead roles where he really fits the role. Yesterday we featured a pretty disappointing final theatrical poster for G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and it was nothing short of a Photoshop mess. But today, two new international posters have surfaced that have a much sleeker design and much less obvious glossy touch-ups (though Bruce Willis still looks weird). Honestly, Paramount should just take one of these posters and slap the English title on it and send that out across the United States instead. Earlier this year we featured the entire Oscar winning animated short film (The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore) and, despite my love for Pixar and their film La Luna, it was easy to see why it won the Oscar. It's the same case here again, with the short that won the 2011 BAFTA for Best Animated Short, titled The Eagleman Stag about "Peter Eagleman", made by UK animator Mikey Please. The short is beautifully stop-motion animated and made out of this white, foam that adds a very unique aesthetic to the overall story. The Walt Disney Studios announced with a press release on Sunday morning, before the weekend was even finished, that Marvel's The Avengers is estimated to earn a total $200.3 million in its opening weekend run here in the US. If that estimate is true (official this morning - closer to ~$205M) it has just set a new box office record for opening weekend, easily passing $169 million set by Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 last year. This is a huge opening, but well worth it for a movie that does deliver after a five-film, four-year crossover lead up. Bravo, Marvel. ›››

The Fire Rises! We should probably just make a new "Merch" category specifically for The Dark Knight Rises. On top of the t-shirt contest held by Design By Humans, which just announced their winner, there is another high fashion shop revealing their own line of Dark Knight Rises apparel. These were discovered by Collider, who found a display from Kitson in Santa Monica featuring lots of shirts inspired by Batman, including a few of Catwoman, created by designer "Kinetix". The unfortunate part is that they cost $48, which is a bit too expensive for my tastes, especially when even DBH sells for $22. That said, they are cool. ›››

At midnight on May 4th, The Avengers assembled on the big screen for the very first time (read Jeremy's review here) and audiences have turned up to the tune of over $200 million this weekend alone. But for the entire day preceding, some dedicated and loyal fans of the iconic superheroes had enough free time (or skipped out on work) to spend an entire day in the theaters as part of the epic Marvel Marathon hosted by AMC Theatres. The event ran through Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, in that order, leading to The Avengers, and damn was it great. ›››

Well, there you go, there is definitely a lot of Avatar on the way, between movies and theme parks. While speaking with the NY Times Media Decoder blog with Edward Wong (via BleedingCool), James Cameron, master filmmaker and deep sea explorer, straight up revealed that his future line-up consists of pretty much Avatar, some documentaries, exploring the ocean/world, and that's about it - nothing more in film. Wait, what? Can it be? No more del Toro's At the Mountains of Madness or anything else? Cameron gives some rather interesting quotes in the NY Times Q&A, a few that make me concerned for his future.
