Chloe Moretz to Lead Unique Black Listed Zombie Drama 'Maggie'

Chloe Moretz

With a role alongside a vampire in Dark Shadows, after becoming one herself in Let Me In, it's time for Chloe Moretz to step into the shoes of another iconic horror monster. Variety reports Ms. Moretz will play the titular character in Maggie, a drama about a 16-year old girl from a town in middle America who becomes infected by a zombie. However, this film is different then your average zombie flick as it actually takes six months for the girl to turn into a zombie and the story follows the affect it has on her family, mainly her father who continues to have nothing but unconditional love for his teenage daughter. Plot Details Revealed for Stephen King's 'The Shining' Sequel Novel

The Shining

Way back in November of 2009 we got word that Stephen King was working on a sequel novel to The Shining, the book on which the classic Stanley Kubrick horror film of the same name is based. Well, King has been hard at work on the book titled Doctor Sleep, and the reason we're so interested in it is because of the potential for a film sequel. Apparently the book is slated to hit shelves on January 15th next year, and there's a good chance a studio could pick up the film rights to the book before then. In the meantime, how about we give you the official synopsis that just made its way online from the most official source. Read on! ›››

'Warrior' Director Gavin O'Connor to Helm a 'Yakuza' Crime Thriller

Gavin O'Connor

Even though I don't watch MMA or any sort of martial arts, Gavin O'Connor's Warrior was one of my favorite movies of 2011. It's a great sports drama which featured fantastic performances from Joel Edgerton, Tom Hardy, and Nick Nolte. Deadline reports that O'Connor has found a new project, a contemporary Japanese crime thriller called Yakuza which is about - you guessed it - the Japanese equivalent to the mafia. The plot follows an American intelligence guru who gets in over his head dealing with the head of the crime syndicate, slipping even deeper into the seedy underworld of the Japanese criminal organization. ›››

Seltzer & Friedberg Take Aim at 'The Hunger Games' for New Parody

The Hunger Games Parody

If you thought Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg were finished with their godawful brand of spoof movies, I've got bad news for you. According to Variety, the guys behind Epic Movie, Date Movie, Meet The Spartans, and Vampires Suck have signed on to write and direct The Starving Games, a parody of one of this year's biggest box-office successes, Gary Ross' The Hunger Games. Weird how everyone seems to have forgotten about that movie in the wake of The Avengers, but Seltzer and Friedberg are ready to mix in more idiotic pop culture references and remind people about The Hunger Games in the worst possible way. ›››

'Harry Potter' Producer David Heyman to Adapt 'Paddington Bear'

Paddington Bear

Between producing the massively successful entries in the Harry Potter franchise, David Heyman brought movies like I Am Legend and Yes Man to the big screen. Now that Potter-Mania is over, Heyman is moving on to another popular series of British stories that could end up becoming the next big kid's franchise. Deadline reports that Heyman has partnered with France's StudioCanal to produce a live action/CGI hybrid version of Paddington Bear, a book series that started with A Bear Called Paddington in 1958, about a precocious bear from Peru who is found at the Paddington train station in London and adopted by humans. ›››

Guillermo del Toro to Co-Direct His Own 3D Stop-Motion 'Pinocchio'

Pinocchio

Over a year ago we got our first look at Guillermo del Toro's new spin on the classic story of Pinocchio. The brilliant director revealed their collaboration on a stop-motion animated version of the story with The Jim Henson Company & Pathe back in 2008 and the concept art looked positively astounding. At the time Gris Grimly, who illustrated the 2002 take on the story, was directing with Mark Gustafson, but now Variety has word that del Toro himself has decided to co-direct, his first animated film, with Gustafson with an eye towards shooting once he's completely done with Pacific Rim sometime next summer. More below! ›››

McConaughey, Rickman, & More Attached to Lee Daniels' 'The Butler'

Alan Rickman / Matthew McConaughey

Since he left romantic comedies behind in 2009, Matthew McConaughey has been reclaiming his spot in the industry as a respectable leading man. He recently worked with John Cusack on Lee Daniels' The Paperboy, the director's follow-up to his Oscar-nominated Precious. According to THR, there's a reunion in the works since McConaughey is now attached to star alongside Cusack in Daniels' upcoming historical drama The Butler, led by Forrest Whitaker as a White House servant who worked under the reign of eight presidents. Cuba Gooding Jr., Alan Rickman, and Terrence Howard are all attached, too. Read on! ›››

Kyle Chandler

After a breakout performance in J.J. Abrams' Super 8 last year, it seems Kyle Chandler is on the edge of true stardom (on the big screen). He's gearing up for a big project this year with Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty (formerly Kill Bin Laden), and Deadline reports that the actor has now secured a role opposite Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill in Martin Scorsese's newest movie, The Wolf of Wall Street. He'll play FBI Agent Coleman, the man who tracks and eventually catches Jordan Belfort, an up-and-coming Wall Street stockbroker who gets wildly successful and subsequently gets caught up in drugs, excess, and greed. ›››

Jon Hamm Dives into World of Sports in 'Million Dollar Arm' Drama

Jon Hamm

For several years, Jon Hamm has become better known as Don Draper, one of the best men working in advertising back in the 60's on the AMC drama series "Mad Men." Of course, Hamm has also taken supporting roles in a variety of films like Bridesmaids, The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Town and even bit parts in The A-Team and Sucker Punch (though his role is better in the director's cut). Now Hamm is slated to lead a project, likely while he's on hiatus between seasons of the aforementioned Emmy winning series, as Deadline reports he will star in Million Dollar Arm, a real-life drama set in the world of sports. ›››

Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler Team Up for Romantic Comedy Parody

Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler

On the NBC comedy series "Parks & Recreation" there's been an interesting race for a City Council position between series lead Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler, and Bobby Newport, guest star Paul Rudd, and it's been fantastic. However, it sounds like the two will also be seen together on the big screen for the first time since Wet Hot American Summer in 2001 (which also has a sequel coming sometime down the road). Variety reports Rudd and Poehler will lead They Came Together, a romantic comedy parody from Role Models director David Wain, who also helmed the aforementioned summer camp comedy parody. ›››

The team behind the 2010 thriller The Ghost Writer is back together, including director Roman Polanski, for the singular letter titled D, a film that will chronicle the Dreyfus Affair, the historical political scandal and injustice that involved Alfred Dreyfus, a young French artillery officer who was sentenced to life imprisonment on Devil's Island for allegedly having communicated French military secrets to the German Embassy in Paris. James Cameron Says He's Not Doing Much Besides 'Avatar' 2, 3 & 4

James Cameron Avatar

Well, there you go, there is definitely a lot of Avatar on the way, between movies and theme parks. While speaking with the NY Times Media Decoder blog with Edward Wong (via BleedingCool), James Cameron, master filmmaker and deep sea explorer, straight up revealed that his future line-up consists of pretty much Avatar, some documentaries, exploring the ocean/world, and that's about it - nothing more in film. Wait, what? Can it be? No more del Toro's At the Mountains of Madness or anything else? Cameron gives some rather interesting quotes in the NY Times Q&A, a few that make me concerned for his future. Discuss below! ›››

Universal Picks Up Heist 'Breaking The Bank' with 'The Raid' Director

Gareth Evans

Up for some MMA fights next? Deadline is reporting that Universal has acquired Breaking The Bank, a true-story drama about former UFC fighter Lee "Lightning" Murray, a mixed martial arts "street brawler" who organized one of the largest cash heists in England in 2006. They're also hot on the project, because it's one of the first following the breakout smash hit The Raid that has the British director behind that, Gareth Evans, attached. Evans is producing this new project with XYZ Films, who also made The Raid. Darren Aronofsky had apparently been developing/circling this as well, but has since moved over to Noah instead. ›››

Kellan Lutz & Spencer Locke Head to the Jungle as 'Tarzan' and Jane

Kellan Lutz

Last summer we learned that Footloose remake and Hustle & Flow director Craig Brewer was looking at a possible Tarzan trilogy at Warner Bros, but the studio was also looking at a competing project. However, In August of 2010, Constantin Films had already announced development of a new animated Tarzan film which would be taking more cues from Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan novels, the first of which, Tarzan of the Apes, was published in 1912. Now that project finally has some new development as Heat Vision reports Kellan Lutz (The Twilight Saga) and Spencer Locke (Detention) will play Tarzan and Jane. More below! ›››

Timur Bekmambetov

Currently the filmmaker is wrapping up his historical remix in the form of an adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's action horror novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (watch the most recent trailer and featurette), but it looks a future project will keep Timur Bekmambetov grounded in real history. Variety has word the director has just picked up The Current War, a script from Michael Mitnick that made the Black List last year which takes a look at the real-life and publicly displayed race between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse to lead the power industry by creating the first sustainable electrical current. ›››

Man, Sharlto Copley has been nabbing some good roles recently. He was just confirmed to star as the villain in Spike Lee's Oldoy remake, and is also lining up a spot in some horror-thriller called Open Grave, from the guy who directed Apollo 18. Now Deadline says he's also in negotiations to star as the male lead, big role, in Disney's Maleficent movie, that Angelina Jolie is starring in with production designer-turned-director Robert Stromberg. Brad Bird Set to Direct Damon Lindelof's '1952', Not '1906', for Disney

Brad Bird

Big news today for movie nerds. Deadline reports that filmmaker Brad Bird and fan-favorite film writer Damon Lindelof are teaming up for a new project at Disney. Bird, coming off of his first live-action with Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, is set to direct the mysterious large scale sci-fi project 1952. Whether that's just a codename or an actual year related to the story, we're not yet sure, but the project "has multi-platform aspirations" meaning Disney wants it for theme parks, retail stores and theaters. It'll no doubt be a "big tentpole" movie, and with these two storytellers leading the way, it is definitely something to watch for. ›››
