Video Blog: Marvel's 'The Avengers' Initial Reactions with SlashFilm
After releasing in international theaters last weekend, Disney and Marvel Studios are finally opening Joss Whedon's The Avengers in theaters in the US this week. The movie actually screened about three weeks ago at its world premiere in Los Angeles, where a large number of movie bloggers/press first saw the movie inside the world famous Grauman's Chinese. Following the screening, immediately after, I met up with a few friends like Peter Sciretta and Germain Lussier, both of SlashFilm, to discuss our initial reactions and thoughts on the kick ass superhero movie we just saw. I'm prefacing this with the reminder that we recorded three weeks ago after our first screening of it, though I'm excited to see it a few more times as soon as I can. ›››

Video Blog: Universal Hits CinemaCon with 'Oblivion', 'Bourne' & More
Wrapping up our coverage of CinemaCon, and putting one hell of a cap on the convention in Las Vegas, was Universal's big presentation Thursday evening. The studio brought any and everyone, including stars from most of their big summer movies, like Kristen Stewart from Snow White and the Huntsman, and Jeremy Renner of The Bourne Legacy. Not only did we get to see brand new footage from both of those movies, Universal unveiled a lot, and showed a lot, including completely raw scenes compiled from only a few weeks of shooting on Joe Kosinski's Oblivion and Carl Rinsch's 47 Ronin, as well as other surprises. ›››

Video Blog: Fox Brings 'Life of Pi', 'Prometheus', 'Taken 2' to CinemaCon
Yet another studio presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, this time hosted by 20th Century Fox looking at their upcoming slate of movies in 2012. Their panel was a unique presentation focusing on the content, and it delivered. The most impressive footage we were treated to was an early look at Ang Lee's adaptation of Life of Pi, the unfilmable novel that looks like it may be a very strong Oscar contender. Fox also showed new footage from Ridley Scott's Prometheus, Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Akiva Schaffer's comedy Neighborhood Watch and Olivier Megaton's sequel Taken 2, which looks badass. Video Blog: Sony's 'Skyfall', 'Spider-Man', 'Total Recall' at CinemaCon
Bond. James Bond. He's back. Yesterday at industry convention CinemaCon in Las Vegas, I attended the presentation hosted by Sony Pictures, the same as Columbia Pictures. They've got a very exciting slate of movies this year, but four of them in particularly really impressed us and we recorded our thoughts after. Not only where we shown the world premiere of the teaser trailer for Sam Mendes' Skyfall, which looked outstanding, but new extended footage in 3D from Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man, plus another glimpse of Rian Johnson's Looper, and finally an extended look at Len Wiseman's Total Recall. Dive in! ›››

Video Blog: Disney/Pixar CinemaCon Showcase with 'Brave' & Marvel
Another day at CinemaCon 2012, another Hollywood presentation. Last night The Walt Disney Company hosted their big presentation looking at their upcoming slate of movies. Disney has become a huge studio in the last few years, taking over Marvel, as well as their own live action and animation productions, plus Pixar of course. The event included a lot of updates on Pixar projects (that we've covered as separate news) as well as a quick recap of Marvel's slate, and also a recap of their upcoming projects like Sam Raimi's Oz: The Great and Powerful and Tim Burton's Frankenweenie. Video Blog: WB's CinemaCon Footage: 'TDKR', 'Hobbit', 'Great Gatsby'
This is why I love CinemaCon (formerly known as ShoWest). Warner Bros always rocks Las Vegas with a presentation looking at their upcoming movies that leaves me giddy (honestly) with excitement. Of course I'm incredibly excited for Chris Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises already, but we got to watch a totally new sizzle reel of ~5 minutes of footage, and it took me to levels of pure cinematic exhilaration. Beyond that, we were treated to ~10 minutes of fresh footage from Peter Jackson's The Hobbit shown in 48FPS 3D, and raw footage from Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby in 3D. Immediately after we recorded a video blog. ›››

Video Blog: 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' Footage Reactions from CinemaCon
Given it's spring and just before the summer movie season kicks off, I am once again spending a week in Las Vegas attending & covering CinemaCon, the yearly movie theater industry convention. Last night we were invited to see five minutes of finished sizzle reel, action footage from Jon M. Chu's G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which was part of a tease leading up to the trailer reveal, which also hit tonight (watch here). Following that early footage viewing, I met up with and recorded a video blog with friends Peter and Frosty discussing our reactions, and how it's looking like the ultimate G.I. Joe movie for all those life-long, die-hard Joe fans. ›››

Watch: Latest 'Skyfall' Video Blog Takes Bond to Shanghai to Shoot
One of the most spectacular elements of James Bond films are the locations, the various places around the world they always actually go to shoot. This time a new video blog on 007.com for the upcoming Bond 23, Skyfall directed by Sam Mendes, showing them shooting in Shanghai, China, where Bond has traveled to tail someone. Daniel Craig returns as 007 once again, but he's barely seen in this, as the video focuses on the shoot, including interviews with First A.D. Michael Lerman and Second Unit Director Alexander Witt. That said, by the end of this I really wanted visit Shanghai was as well. But only if I was a secretly a spy, too. ›››

Bond Girls Berenice Marlohe & Naomie Harris in 'Skyfall' Video Blogs
The first video blog for the long anticipated James Bond sequel Skyfall from director Sam Mendes hit at the end of last month, and now a couple short but sweet video blogs are up. This time, however, it's two new Bond girls that get the spotlight. Berenice Marlohe talks about her character which apparently, and unsurprisingly, has a dark side. Meanwhile Naomie Harris officially clears up rumors of her playing the iconic franchise character and lifetime Bond girl Moneypenny as she reveals that her character is simply a field agent named Eve who thinks she's just as capable as James Bond himself. Watch the videos below. ›››

Video Blog: Alex Buzzes About WonderCon Footage with SlashFilm
I love comic conventions, especially when they're packed with exciting footage and panels. WonderCon, the smaller sister of Comic-Con, usually in San Francisco every spring, was held in Anaheim (temporarily this year) this weekend. Saturday is movie day, and the studios brought quite a force, with presentations for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Ridley Scott's Prometheus, Battleship, Snow White and the Huntsman, The Amazing Spider-Man, and Rian Johnson's Looper. I met up with three guys from SlashFilm afterward for a hype-filled discussion on all the footage we saw and what impressed us the most. ›››

Watch: Sam Mendes' First Video Blog for Bond 23 'Skyfall' Revealed
"Here was a real man in a real situation again." The very first video blog for Bond 23, Skyfall, has debuted on the official 007.com website (via ComingSoon). Taking a cue from The Hobbit, director Sam Mendes presents the first of hopefully many video blogs from the set of Skyfall, this time talking about why he was the perfect guy for the job. He also says some nice things about Daniel Craig, returning as Agent 007, and gives us a tease of the locations he's been shooting in England. "It is still possible to make a big, fabulous, glamorous, escapist movie and yet - at the same time, to say something about the world we're living in." ›››

Video Blog: 'Amazing Spider-Man' Worldwide Preview Event Footage!
Sony is kicking off their marketing for The Amazing Spider-Man today with a worldwide preview event held in numerous cities around the world. Fans were invited in and were shown the brand new trailer in 3D (which will be online tonight) as well as eight minutes of extra never-before-seen footage, some of which was unfinished, but all of which was awesome. I've been very excited for this movie since our first tease at Comic-Con last year, but with the footage we saw today, I'm completely sold and even more hyped for this. Marc Webb was the right guy, Andrew Garfield was the right guy, this is looking better the more we see. ›››

Sundance 2012 Video Blog: Mark Webber's Intimate 'The End of Love'
One film that premiered in the later half of the Sundance Film Festival that has still left a lasting impact on myself and Ethan is a intimate portrait of a father and son from writer/director/actor Mark Webber. You may know him as Stephen Stills in Scott Pilgrim, but Webber is a talented actor who's been starring in indies for years (I met him at my first Sundance in 2007). His new film, The End of Love, is his directorial debut starring himself and his 2-year-old boy Isaac as they try to cope with living in Los Angeles without his mother. It's very touching and raw, but a captivating look at the relationship between a father and his son. ›››

Sundance 2012 Video Blog: Awesome New Horror Anthology 'V/H/S'
The found footage "genre" has become trend in Hollywood, with new Paranormal Activity's replacing the Saw films every year, and many more to come. When it comes to horror found footage films, Sundance has a strong history, with Blair Witch Project premiering back in 1999. Jump ahead 13 years to 2012 and here we are with another genre reinvention, this time refreshing the horror anthology idea with a found-footage film titled V/H/S, about VHS footage, produced by Brad Miska of Bloody-Disgusting. It's an awesome collection of six freaky, fantastic horror films rolled into one and we've got our first video blog about it to watch below. ›››

Sundance 2012 Video Blog: 'Tim & Eric's Billion Dollar Movie' Is Nuts
"My Dad told me this was the coolest mall ever. You think you know more than my Dad? Don't f**kin' come then!" For the first Midnight at Park City screening here at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, Adult Swim stars Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim returned to the festival (after debuting their strange short The Terrys last year) with Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie. Our titular characters try to earn a billion dollars to pay back the money they wasted on a big movie, and myself and Germain Lussier from SlashFilm recorded a video blog reviewing the film and letting people know whether it's just for the fans. ›››

Video Blog: Footage from Josh Trank's 'Chronicle' Looks Awesome
It's all fun and games until everybody gets hurt. Yesterday afternoon I was invited down to the Fox lot in Century City to see roughly 20 minutes of never-before-seen footage revealed from an upcoming film called Chronicle. Directed and conceived by Josh Trank, co-written with Max Landis, it's a new "found-footage" film about high school kids who get telekinetic superpowers - we featured a kick ass trailer for it last year. While the footage didn't reveal anything major plot-wise, we did get a glimpse at a few of the more intense moments and it looks amazing, I cannot wait to see it, one of my most anticipated pre-summer 2012 movies. ...

Steven Spielberg's 'War Horse' Video Review with Alex, Peter, Brandon
"Can you imagine flying over a war, and you know you can never look down?" I admit I'm a huge Steven Spielberg fanatic, mostly because I've grown up with his many films and love the epic storytelling he has a knack for. I was anxious to see War Horse, as it brings Spielberg back to the war landscape, which I personally love. I attended a screening of the film nearly a month ago and recorded a video blog at the time with our own Brandon Tenney and Peter Sciretta from SlashFilm, discussing our spoiler-free initial thoughts on the film we'd just seen. It finally arrives in theaters this weekend, so here is our video in full. ...

Peter Jackson's 'The Hobbit' Video Blog #5 is the Best Christmas Gift
What better way to spend your Christmas weekend curled up by the fire, humming the Dwarven folk song from the teaser trailer, watching another 12-minute video blog about the adventures of Peter Jackson as he continues to film the two Hobbit movies down in New Zealand. The fifth video blog for The Hobbit has just debuted on Facebook (thanks to @iRobulous on the tip & headline suggestion) and it's as spectacular and exciting as you have come to expect. They continue to focus on the logistics location shooting (which is fascinating to see), there's glimpses of Elijah Wood and Quint from AICN as a Hobbit, and more. Enjoy! ...

Video Blog: 'The Dark Knight Rises' IMAX Prologue was Exhilarating!
Earlier tonight I was invited to come see The Dark Knight Rises six-minute IMAX prologue in glorious full-screen film-projected IMAX. As many know, I am a huge fan of Chris Nolan and his Batman series, and I love The Dark Knight. I wasn't sure what to expect and I haven't been looking at any set photos, so this was all a surprise for me and it was amazing—even for only six minutes! The footage was personally introduced by Nolan himself, who I got to meet after. I won't spoil the experience of watching it unfold, but this is something you must—at any cost—see in full IMAX, it is absolutely exhilarating, your jaw will drop. ...

Watch: Fourth Fantastic 'The Hobbit' Video Blog from Peter Jackson
They're back! "Shooting The Hobbit in 3D is a dream come true." This video blog, the fourth one from Peter Jackson (via his Facebook) for The Hobbit, focuses mainly on 3D, exploring not only the technical details behind it all, but how/why and what it will all look like in the end. It's fascinating, exciting, and just amazing to watch, I'm still blown away by the fact that we get to watch 10 minute behind-the-scenes videos a year out for these movies. This also confirms my expectations that The Hobbit should be as much of a technological/visual leap as the original Lord of the Rings movies were; I cannot wait. Another must watch! ...
